Until the Bill becomes law it us uncertain exactly what will happen to the interlock requirements. Presently, if convicted of a DUI in Arizona, a person will be required to install an ignition interlock device. For misdemeanor DUI convictions, a person’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) will determine the length of the interlock requirement.

Under the current law, the interlock requirements are:

• Basic DUI (BAC of .08 – .149):       1 year
• Extreme DUI (BAC of .150 – .199)  1 year
• Super Extreme DUI (BAC .200 +)  1.5 years

The proposed new Arizona DUI laws are believed to make the following change:

• Basic DUI –          6 months
• Extreme DUI –     1 year
• Super Extreme – 1.5 years
